SOLD $695 - U.S. Model 1836 Flintlock Pistol

Standard Model 1836 .54 caliber single-shot flintlock martial pistol in original flint. Iron furniture, finished bright. Brass detachable pan with high fence. Round smoothbore barrel is 8 ½" long and finished bright. The barrel is stamped U.S. / NWP / P, NWP = Nahum W. Patch. Swivel type ramrod with button shaped head is threaded at lower end for ball screw or wiper. Iron mountings, brass blade front, and open, oval shaped rear sight is on tang behind the breech. Three quarter length black walnut stock extends to 3 inches of the muzzle, repair under the lockplate stretching over to trigger guard, stock repair was professionally done long time ago. Date on the rear of the lockplate is worn considerably, no name is visible in front of the cock, possibly replaced plate. Overall length is 14 inches.

The Model 1836 flintlock pistol was the primary handgun used by the U.S. Dragoons and Mounted Rifles during the Mexican War. A high percentage of the existing Model 1836 were converted to percussion after the Mexican War.
