The Skipjack, Rebecca T. Ruark, rounding Thomas Point

The Chesapeake Bay skipjack, specifically designed for dredging oysters over 100 years ago, once numbered over one thousand vessels and is the last sail driven fishing fleet in America. The Rebecca T. Ruark, built in 1886 on Taylor's Island, is the oldest out of the few remaining vessels in the fleet today and is owned and operated by Captain Wade Murphy of Tilghman Island, Maryland. On a crisp November Morn Canada geese take flight overhead as Rebecca glides through the waves dredging oysters at Thomas Point near Annapolis.
