Captain
Colin Kelly got his B-17 airborne from the strip at Mindanao,
in the Philippines, immediately the alarm sounded on December
7. After bombing a Japanese landing force, Kelly was intercepted
by Zero fighters and his aircraft set ablaze. Having held
the bomber steady just long enough for the crew to bail out,
the B-17 exploded, taking its gallant skipper's life as it
plunged earthwards. Kelly became one of America's first heroes
of WWII. Prints signed by two of Kelly's crew are issued with
a Companion print signed by Japanese fighter Ace, Saburo Sakai. |
