Hurricanes
of 87 Squadron return to their West Country base to refuel
and re-arm during the heavy fighting in August 1940.
Hurricane pilots were credited with four-fifths
of all RAF victories in the Battle of Britain guaranteeing
the Hawker Hurricane its place in history as Britain's most
successful fighter during the most significant air battle
of World War II. Loved by its pilots, this sturdy little fighter
could take all kinds of damage and still fly its pilot home.
Nick's new limited edition superbly
captures the mood of the period, his rendition of both aircraft
and countryside demonstrating why he is widely regarded as
one of the world's foremost aviation artists. Seen in the
forefront of the painting is the MK I Hurricane flown by Ian
Gleed, as he and other 87 Squadron pilots make a hurried return
to their field.
