This original antique pistol has Birmingham English and Belgian proof marks on the barrel, and is marked T. Ketland Co. on the lock plate. Stocked in English walnut, trimmed in brass furniture, the brass trim is decorated with a few lines of hand engraving. The lock is a delightful example of a English flint lock with outlines, with a few engraved accents on the lock plate and a graceful outlined goose neck cock. The pan does not have a external bridle. The lock has a strong mainspring, a smooth trigger release, and a secure half-cock notch. The T. Ketland marking is for Thomas Ketland. Similar locks will be found with W. Ketland markings, Thomas's eldest son.

The English walnut stock displays some wood shrinkage and cracks. The muzzle end of the stock shows considerable wear indicating it served its purpose over the years. The 8 1/2 inch tapered round pistol barrel, marked with post 1813 Birmingham view and proof marks and a Belgian Liege proof mark on the side of the breech. The top of the barrel is shaped with a long flat with engraved border and fish design. The inside of the border is marked London. No front or rear sight was fitted. The iron breech plug tang is engraved with a border and potted plant above the tang bolt. The wrist is fitted with a small oval brass thumbpiece.

Tapered wooden ramrod and it fits snugly. The ramrod pipes are formed from sheet brass with raised rings at the ends from strength. The trigger bow has been lightly engraved. The forward finial is engraved as a feather. The stock has a crack from the trigger to the rear of the lock panel. Single stage cock works fine. Overall length is 15 inches - .69 caliber
